Neighbourhood Watch
News: In October 2006 the contractors (MC) working on the sewage
mains suffered a theft of between £3,000 and £4,000 of equipment from their premises
in Orleton. The site manager Andy Jaques reported the theft to Neighbourhood Watch.
A number of of local people contacted Alf Jenkins with constructive information
and as a result all of the stolen goods were successfully recovered. The MC boss
was delighted; saying this had never happened in his 14 years of being in charge
and promised to give £100 to the village as a thank you. The money was kindly shared
amongst various village organisations.
Well done to observant villagers and particulary to MC for showing their appreciation.
Neighbourhood Watch is a partnership where people come together to make their communities
safer. It involves the Police, Community Safety departments of local authorities,
other voluntary organisations and, above all, individuals and families who want
to make their neighbourhoods better places to live.
Our village is generally a lovely and safe place to live, however, as with all communities,
there is a minority of people who cause nuisance and disruption within the village.
There have been some very upsetting incidents recently involving animal cruelty
which has caused distress to many people. There have also been incidents of vandalism
around the village.
Please, if you see any suspicious activity or witness any incident, either call
Alf Jenkins, Orleton's Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator on 01568 780398, Hereford
Police on 08547 444888 or our new Beat Officer Andy Varden on 08457 444 888 (extension
4521).
All calls to these numbers will be treated in the strictest confidence or, if you
wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. Let's all work together
to make sure that the quality of life for everyone in Orleton is as good as it should
be.
