Orleton Festival 2011 - June 11th
Village Festival logo
This year Orleton Fete becomes Orleton Festival, with an afternoon and evening filled
with entertainment for all the family. The football tournament will not be on the
same day as the fete this year, so the whole of the Recreation Ground will be used
for the festival. The highlight of the day will be a battle staged by a re-enactment
group, The Medieval Combat Society, in authentic costume, with real swords!
We have tried to put together an event that really has something for everyone. There
will be a variety of stalls selling everything from bric-a-brac to plants. A local
expert will give a demonstration on bee keeping. Refreshments including soft drinks,
ice cream, a beer tent, BBQ and teas and cakes from the WI will be available.
The central arena will feature live entertainment all afternoon from local groups
including LightsDown Theatre School and OGGLE. Later we have a Dog Show and
Fancy Dress Competition (PDF).
A photography competition will be held in the Small Hall, the theme is Orleton Parish
through the seasons and the winning photographs will be featured in a village calendar
for 2012. Please contact Di Harris on 01568 780265 for further details, if you would
like to submit an entry.
For younger children, there will be a Bouncy Castle and lots of games and stalls,
to keep them entertained.
The afternoon will finish with a Tug of War, after which, the entertainment moves
into the Village Hall with an Open Mic Session from 5-7pm, followed by music from
live local bands and a disco. Food and a bar will be provided in the evening.
The afternoon starts at 12.00 noon and all events will be held at either the Recreation
Ground/Village Hall/Pavilion.
This event is being held to raise money for Orleton Village Hall. We are very lucky
to have such a fantastic facility which is used by so many people in the community.
It is run solely by volunteers and we receive no funding for maintenance or improvements.
This is our biggest fundraiser and the income raised from it is absolutely vital
to the continued success of the Village Hall. Please put June 11th in your diary
and come along and support this very worthy cause, it promises to be a great afternoon
and evening.
