Wildlife in Orleton
Phyl and Richard King from the Herefordshire Nature Trust visited the pond in Orleton
Recreation ground on 9th March and gave us advice on how to develop it as a wildlife
area. Several frogs were seen and lots of frog spawn, which is very good news considering
the devastating disease effecting the population of frogs across the world. Definitely
some well loved creatures worth protecting. If you want to help with wildlife in
the recreation ground, do contact Simon Snape (chair) or Barbara Mark (sec).
Orleton bird watch has started on its Spring watch. Please look at Orleton Village
web site for last years study. If you think you might be able to help with this
please contact Christina online, or contact me. It was noted that the frog march
across Overton Lane started in the rains at the end of February. I do not know if
anyone else has seen this happen, but the lane becomes a moving blanket of frogs
and it is difficult not to step on them. I have noticed this happen for at least
10 years now, some years with more than others, but with the removal of their habitat
last year it might not happen again I am sad to say.
