Orleton Energy Survey
Fossil energy supplies are declining, due both the increased usage and World population
increases. In addition they contribute to Global Warming and other undesirable atmospheric
conditions.
In time past The Manor and Parish of Orleton, was to a considerable extent self
sufficient in energy supplies. Horses for transport, the Mill for power, wood for
fuel. Alder charcoal [the village is named after these trees] is one of the best,
which may account for the smith present in 1066. Charcoal was much used then for
cooking as well.
To examine how the Manor and Parish might in part return to energy self sufficiency,
one needs to know what energy we all use now, and how much. Hence the Survey, which
it is hoped as many as possible will complete during 2007.
It is interesting to note that Biofuels can now be made from the waste we all throw
away, and that in Ludlow they collect the food waste and make electricity and heat
from it. See greenfinch.
